A 10 minute film, interviewing some of Israel's best known researchers and clinicians in the field explain the disease and ist treatment. This film was produced by the Chief Scientist Office of the Israeli Ministry of Health in the framework of ERA-Net NEURON, a pan-European organisation which receives funding under the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Union. It is provided as a service to the public.

Cannabis in the Brain. Research on the Effects of Marijoana and Hashish


Developments in the future medical applications of cannabis research are described by Prof. Raphael Mechoulam. Prof. Mechoulam and colleagues, from The School of Pharmacy of The Faculty of Medicine at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, discovered in 1964 the main active compound in cannabis, known as THC. The Cannabis sativa plant has been used as a herbal therapy, most notably as an antiemetic (to treat vomiting and nausea). Other applications may include arthritis, glaucoma, multiple sklerosis, depression, movement disorders and chronic pain. So far, the medical use of cannabis is legal only in a limited number of territories, its usage generally requires a prescription and distribution is usually done within a framework defined by local laws.

Parkinson's Disease Research and Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery

Deep Brain Stimulation Treatment to cure Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders is described by Prof. Hagai Bergman, a physician-scientist from the Dept. of Physiology at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School and Dr. Zvi Israel, a neurosurgeon from the Dept. of Neurosurgery at Hadassah University Hospital.
Parkinson's disease or PD is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that often impairs the patients' motor skills and speech, as well as other functions. Although the cause and molecular pathophysiological basis of this disease have been and still are thoroughly investigated, there is presently no cure for PD, but medications or surgery can provide relief from the symptoms. One promising therapeutic option is stimulation of parts of the brain with implanted electrodes, Deep Brain Stimulation.
